If you don’t know “micro-mix” YouTube maestro, Pogo, it’s about damned time got familiar
Pogo’s the internet sensation that’s been exploding the hearts of animation nerds everywhere for some time now. How does he do it? By meticulously assembling tiny audio-visual bits and bobs from Disney moments anyone who’s read this far is probably no doubt familiar with. I’ll let the man himself explain his latest video “Bloom“:
“I recorded the harp sample from ‘Sleeping Beauty‘, and a series of chords from ‘A.I: Artificial Intelligence‘ to form the base of the chorus. The vocals are sampled from Disney films, each of which are illustrated in this video.”
I became familiar with Pogo three years ago after his first Disney-centric video “Alice” took the web by storm, as did his next animated mash-up, “White Magic.” Both have remained a staple on many a playlist for me ever since.
Following his Mary Poppins remix, Disney actually hired him to create the videos in a official capacity, starting with UP…
And then onto the phenomenal “Toyz Noise,” both of which found great success right around the release of those two Pixar films in theaters and on DVD.
After his contract with Disney ended, he returned classical, 2D animation remixes with the incredible Snow White tune called “Wishery.” (And managed to reupload some removed Disney tracks without getting sued!)
Hate to focus specifically on the Disney side of Pogo’s work, but that’s sorta what we do here. That said, you should definitely check out “Bangarang” (a Hook remix!) and “Alomohora” (Harry Potter!) because they’re absolutely stellar mixes as well. Best of all, for a pay-what-you-want price, you can download ALL of Pogo’s remixes at his website. Oh, and I apologize on behalf of his YouTube handle.
Yes, ever since you played pogo on tdar I’ve been hocked.
Fuck yeah! I just wish he could post the Pirates of the Carribean one without being sued. That is the one thing I hate about Disney, literally.
The Up! one is my favorite. Thanks Chirs: )
