If I may play the cultural Christian for a second, I never noticed that what the Who's were gathered around when they had nothing, was essentially an embodiment of the Christ iconography. Knowing that, it sort of sheds a whole new light on the story. While The Grinch thought he was taking away all the things that made Christmas, it was only after he was done that the realized what he took was just the frosting on the cake, the window dressing for something entirely unapproachable. Something he couldn't take.

I remember that as a kid I would watch this on Christmas Eve up until the part just after the Grinch stole everything and left. Then on Christmas morning I would resume the movie right when all the Whos woke up, and watch it with the rest of my family. I think I still have the VHS somewhere in my basement even. Good memories...
